Organisers

Our small but dedicated group of organisers plan all details of the ride, including:-

  • Ride date determination
  • Ride route planning
  • Mapping
  • Volunteer coordination
  • Assembly area planning, setup and management
  • Ride safety
  • OHS
  • Police liaison
  • Council liaison
  • Media liaison
  • Public liaison
  • Social media
  • Posters
  • Publicity
  • Artwork
  • Graphic design
  • Marketing
  • Fund raising
  • Website production
  • General planning
  • After ride review
  • On ride day, wear lanyard identifying as crew

Organisers are busiest in the months before our rides but need to be involved throughout the year. We meet for online virtual meetings about once a month, but more frequently as we get closer to each ride date.

Ride leader

The ride leader has overall responsibility and authority associated with the ride. Duties include:-

  • Provide effective leadership before, during and after the ride
  • Wear lanyard identifying as crew
  • Lead the the ride in conjunction with the ride marshals
  • Communicate with the ride marshals using two way radios
  • Authorised to make changes to the ride for any reason
  • Authorised to cancel the ride for safety or other compelling reason
  • Authorised to slow down or speed up the ride
  • Authorised to require any person to leave the ride if in the opinion of the ride leader that person is acting inappropriately including compromising the safety of the ride or any person
  • Approve all elements of the ride plan
  • Police liaison on ride day
  • Council liaison on ride day
  • Other agency liaison
  • Safety
  • Induction and approval of ride marshals
  • Conduct crew meeting
  • Conduct pre ride briefing
Ride marshals

Ride marshals provide guidance to the riders and ensure the safety of participants. Duties include:-

  • Ensure personal safety
  • Ensure safety of the riders
  • Wear lanyard identifying as crew
  • Ensure familiarity with ride route
  • Attend pre ride crew meeting
  • Attend pre ride briefing
  • Be clearly identified as a ride marshal using a red flag attached to bike
  • Communicate with riders to ensure that the ride is effectively managed
  • Provide leadership and guidance to riders
  • Liaise with the ride leader via two way radios
  • Report issues to the ride leader
  • Communicate using two way radios with other ride marshals and ride leader
  • Assist with setting up and pack up of the meeting area
  • Contribute to post ride review
Photographers
  • Be allocated photo or video tasks or objectives
  • Present to the meeting area at an allocated time
  • Wear lanyard identifying as photographer
  • Take photos or videos before, during and after the ride
  • Liaise with the organiser who is leading the photographer team
  • Provide a copy of all images or videos in the agreed manner and timeframe
Ride day volunteers

Without our amazing ride day volunteers, we could not run the ride. Volunteers assist with:-

  • Wear lanyard identifying as crew
  • Meeting area setup and pack down
  • Managing enquiries in the meeting area
  • Passing on information to the organisers
  • Handing out media and other passes
  • First aid
  • Assisting riders with minor bicycle faults (such as topping up bike tyre pressures)
  • Collecting donations (thank you to those who support us financially)
  • Greeting everyone!
Body painters

Body painters assist at the meeting area before the ride starts. They may paint slogans in support of the ride or just a bit of colour and fun! Riders often paint each other as well.
